This exhibition pays homage to the incredible legacy within the visuals arts inspired by the life and work of dancer and choreographer Merce Cunningham, who died this year, and his life partner John Cage. Together, these quiet artistic leaders explored the limits and intersections between dance and music, poetry and visual art, humor and life, and although they established the independence of dance from music, their incorporation of non-western thinking and non-programmed foundations, such as chance, laid the groundwork for scores of artists in the latter half of the twentieth century.
